About SLAAMB Programs

The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board (SLAAMB) delivers programs that support employment, skills development, as well as access to traditional harvesting activities across Northern Ontario.

Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Program (ISETP)

SLAAMB is an agreement holder under the federal Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Program, which supports long-term, community-driven approaches to employment and training. Through ISETP, SLAAMB funds initiatives that reflect local priorities and build individual and community capacity. These include:

  • Community Initiatives – Training and employment projects designed and delivered at the community level
  • District-Wide Initiatives – Collaborative training programs that serve multiple communities across the region
  • Youth Initiatives – Supports for Indigenous youth to explore career paths, develop skills, and gain work experience
  • Childcare Program – Assistance for childcare supports that allow parents and guardians to participate in training or employment opportunities

Harvesters Support Grant Program

SLAAMB also administers the Harvesters Support Grant Program, which promotes access to traditional harvesting and food-sharing activities. Funded through the federal Nutrition North Canada initiative, the program supports eligible remote communities by providing funding for equipment, fuel, maintenance, safety gear, and food distribution.

The Harvesters program is only available to those within the SLAAMB region that qualify under federal guidelines, typically remote or fly-in communities eligible for Nutrition North subsidies.
