The Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board was founded in November 1991 to address the employment and training needs in the geographical area. On behalf of the Sioux Lookout area Chiefs, SLAAMB signed an agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada and the Canada Employment Insurance Commission, in which SLAAMB will now handle the new Indigenous Skills and Employment Training Program (ISETP). This agreement is in effect from April 1, 2019 to March 21, 2029.
SLAAMB serves 25 First Nations, mostly remote, with six accessible by road. It also represents six indigenous organizations across a 200,000-square-kilometre region.
